Heavy vehicle Off Road Driver Training

Getabout can develop and conduct a comprehensive training package complying with your staff training requirements for drivers of Heavy 4WD vehicles.

This course can be conducted for larger 4wd vehicles: eg Water Tankers; Fire Fighting Responders; Light Trucks and Operational Vehicles.
The 4WD competencies can be taken from a number of packages and also includes the Low Risk Driving Techniques. TLIC107C – Drive Vehicle.

Duration: - Two Days

This comprehensive training package covers the following units of competency.

Including: Low risk driving and hazard perception (defensive driving techniques).

Some of the topics we will be covering in detail during the two day training session includes:

• Perform pre-operational vehicle checks, including:
  • Audible and visible warning devices (if applicable)
  • Cabin drill, seating positions and safety
  • External equipment and accessories
  • Loading, loads and load security
  • Standard vehicle lights
  • Under bonnet and under body
  • Vehicle pre-start and start up procedures
• Use a single snatch Strap to recover a vehicle
• Operate a 4WD vehicle giving due regard to Occupational Health and Safety issues
• Knowledge and skills required to operate a 4WD vehicle whilst caring for the environment
• Understanding different vehicle handling characteristics, with practical applications of
  • Acceleration,
  • Braking, and
  • Cornering Techniques
• Identifying, assessing and reducing risks and hazards associated with driving 4WD on and off road
• Operate a 4WD vehicle competently in off-highway conditions including:
• irregular terrain such as - mud, sand, side slope, ditches, water, dry and wet dirt roads up and down steep hills;
• correct range, gears and techniques
• Change a wheel on a 4WD vehicle sited on uneven ground
