Complex Off Road Skills Course

Duration: 18 hours (2 day) face to face plus 8-14 hours pre-course e-learning and online assessment

Mode of Delivery: Mixed delivery including Pre-learning (e-learning including online assessment and face to face training and assessment).

Course Times: 8:15 am meet time for course start time 8:30 am (unless otherwise advised by Getabout Office or allocated trainer/training partner).

FWPCOT3329 Perform complex four wheel drive operations and FWPCOT3326 Recover four wheel drive vehicle include:

  • Drive a 4WD vehicle in difficult terrain
  • Select the best route for your safety – and for the environment
  • Cross deep water
  • Stop, start and manoeuvre on steep inclines and declines
  • Operate a winch
  • Perform essential ‘in the field’ maintenance and repairs, including punctures
  • Use advanced recovery techniques

Please note: Some regions/venues have a surcharge so the basic course cost may change depending on location. Courses are facilitated in some states by other training contractors- they ensure that our training is delivered to the same high standards across the country.

The Complex Off Road Skills course builds on your previous 4WD knowledge to take you to the next level of off road performance. This two-day course involves a range of terrains, so you’ll be able to tackle any 4WD adventure with confidence.

A front mounted winch is required for this course

To participate in this course, it is a prerequisite that you need to have achieved a standard 4WD competency certificate in Operate a four wheel drive vehicle on unsealed roads or equivalent. If you are new to 4WD training, we recommend the Off Road Skills course.

This nationally recognised off road training course also includes the comprehensive Getabout Training 4WD Guide Book, access to the Getabout E-learning platform for access to resources, pre-course work sheets and theory and practical assessments. As well as Recovery equipment and CB radio provided for on the day training.

How it works:

When you register for the course, our office will:

  • issue you with an enrolment link (each course participant needs to complete, please complete as soon as possible)
  • post the 4WD Guide Book to your address
  • you will receive an invitation to our e-learning platform 2 - 3 weeks out from your training day.

Getabout endeavours to allow you ample time to read and view e-learning resources in preparation before your driver training day. You are required to complete a short-written exercises based on your pre-learning and knowledge in the e-learning platform.

The Getabout e-learning platform is easy to use. You will need either a smart phone, laptop or other device, and your own accessible email address.

For your training, bring your 4WD vehicle with an operational winch fitted (capable of low range) and we’ll review your answers and discuss any questions – then it’s time to get behind the wheel! You may be required to access your e-learning on the day.

We have a maximum instructor-student ratio of 1:6, so you’ll receive personalised training to get the skills you need.
