Girls Weekend

Get the girls together for a fun-packed two-day course that will set you up for your 4WD touring adventures – whether with the blokes or not. Learn the skills you need to get off the beaten track so you can discover Australia’s natural gems – from amazing waterfalls to fantastic campsites.

This course takes place over a weekend in the beautiful Blue Mountains of New South Wales. Local accommodation available or bring along your camping gear to sleep under the stars and wake up to a rural Aussie sunrise.

Our instructors will guide you through the 4WD skills you need to go adventuring with confidence.  You’ll get to drive across different terrain and practise your new 4WD skills. You’ll be amazed how confident and comfortable you’ll be by the end of the weekend.

In the evening, depending on weather – maybe after a swim in the river or gather round the campfire for some proper bush tucker and get excited about the adventures that lie ahead. Plus, you’ll receive a comprehensive 4WD handbook to take away with you.

Course Currency Status: Current

Accredited Training Duration: 8 hours (1 day) face to face plus 4-7 hours pre-course e-learning and online assessment

Mode of Delivery: Mixed delivery including Pre-learning (e-learning) and online assessment & face to face training and assessment.

Course Times: 8:15 am meet time for course start time 8:30 am 

Unique Student Identifier (USI) required: Yes, all participants must supply a USI to enrol on the course.

Outcomes for Operate four wheel drive vehicle on unsealed roads include:

• Performing pre-operational vehicle checks
• Applying safe vehicle loading practices
• Changing a wheel on a 4wd vehicle sited on uneven ground
• Stall/key start recovery downhill forward and reverse
• Implementing minimal environmental impact practices
• Operating a 4wd vehicle competently in off-highway conditions, including:
• Up and down steep inclines
• Correct range, gears and techniques
• Through muddy terrain and ditches
• Across side slope involving irregular terrain
• Irregular sandy terrain
• Through water and along dry and wet dirt roads.
• Using a single snatch strap to recover a vehicle
• Operating a 4wd vehicle giving due regard to workplace health and safety issues
• Knowledge and skills required to use a 4wd vehicle with due regard to environmental issues

Through the weekend you will also undertake non-accredited workshop/s where you will learn:

• The essential 4WD skills for outback touring
• How to tackle the tracks that get you where you want to go
• How to tell when a route is not drivable
• What to pack for the perfect camping trip
• Basic running repairs to keep you on track
• Recovery techniques in case your vehicle gets bogged
• Bushcraft skills – like making amazing damper

The nationally recognised off road training component of the course also includes the comprehensive Getabout Training 4WD Guide Book, access to the Getabout E-learning platform for access to resources, pre-course work sheets and theory and practical assessments, recovery equipment and CB radio provided for on the day training.

What to expect:

When you register for the course, our office will:

• issue you with an enrolment link (each course participant needs to complete, please complete as soon as possible)
• post the 4WD Guide Book to your address
• you will receive an invitation to our e-learning platform 2 - 3 weeks out from your training day.

Getabout endeavours to allow you ample time to complete all pre-learning and online assessment in preparation before your training day.

The Getabout e-learning platform is easy to use. You will need either a smart phone, laptop or other device, and your own accessible email address.

$700 for a single participant.

Two drivers in the same vehicle $830 (total).

We have a maximum instructor-student ratio of 1:6, so you’ll receive personalised training to get the skills you need.
