On Road Towing Course

National Code: AURTGA001 Drive and manoeuvre trailers

Course Currency Status: Current

Duration: 9 hours (1 day) face to face plus 4-7 hours pre-course e-learning and online assessment

Mode of Delivery: Mixed delivery including Pre-learning (e-learning including online assessment and face to face training and assessment).

Course Times: 8:15 am meet time for 8:30 am course start time (unless otherwise advised by Getabout Office or allocated trainer/training partner).

Unique Student Identifier (USI) required: Yes, all participants must supply a USI to enrol on the course.

Courses are facilitated in some states by other training contractors- they ensure that our training is delivered to the same high standards across the country. 

Participants must bring their own vehicle and caravan / trailer to the course. 

Limited Caravan / Trailer hire is available at the Equestrian Centre, Sydney and selected QLD venues only and subject to availability. Hire cost additional to course cost $150 (includes taxes and insurance).  To use the Getabout hire van you will need a vehicle capable of towing 2.5T, fitted with a tow bar, tow ball and electric brakes.

This one-day course is the ideal introduction to driving your vehicle with a trailer. Available in locations across the country, it offers experienced instruction to help build your confidence.

Whether you want to tow a boat, a caravan, a horse float or a trailer – this course sets you up with the knowledge to tow safely and securely, so the journey is as enjoyable as the destination.

Outcomes for Drive and manoeuvre trailers include:

• Check your trailer is safe, secure and loaded properly
• Connect your trailer to your vehicle for optimal safety
• Spot potential problems before they derail your journey
• Drive – forward and reverse – with a trailer
• Tow a trailer safely in traffic and the open road
• Decouple and park your trailer appropriately

How it works

Once your course reservation is confirmed, you will receive an enrolment link. Once your enrolment has been received you will receive an invitation to join our e-learning platform for access to the course materials and online assessment.

You will have access to the PDF version of the Australian Guide to Towing handbook and videos to help support you through your course worksheets and questions. The course worksheets are designed for you and our staff personalise the course to your combination (vehicle plus trailer/van).

Prior to the day of your training, we will review your answers and if need, be in contact via the e-learning chat function.

There will be a maximum of three (3) vehicles per instructor, so you will get personalised training and lots of opportunities to ask questions – as well as try out all your new skills.
